Eric Croes - Residence 2018

Éric Croes, born in La Louvière in 1978, grew up in Jodoigne before studying sculpture at La Cambre at the age of 19. After his training, he explored various disciplines such as watercolor, painting, ink, and sculpture, eventually discovering a passion for ceramics.

He attended evening classes at the Etterbeek Academy, where he developed this interest further. Fascinated by the depth of color found in glazes, reminiscent of his early painting practice, he began creating simple, functional objects. In 2014, Croes acquired his first kiln and set up a ceramic studio in his cellar, where he continues to experiment with glazes.

For him, ceramics is a form of writing, a way of storytelling shaped by fire and transformation, an element of unpredictability that he embraces. Though ceramics is central to his work, Croes identifies foremost as a sculptor. He lives and works in Brussels and was the very first resident of the Atelier Pierre Culot.
