For its fourth residency, Atelier Pierre Culot invited the Liège-based artist duo Mon Colonel & Spit. Guided by Pascal Slootmakers, the workshop’s ceramist for over thirty years, they learned molding techniques and experimented with enamel. Embracing color variations and unexpected traces usually discarded by ceramists, they echoed Pierre Culot’s own appreciation for chance in creation. The duo produced one hundred unique vases, each revealing their poetic and eclectic universe. The invitation followed Atelier Pierre Culot’s enthusiasm for their recent exhibition at Alice Gallery, where their bold, generous, and iconoclastic practice stood out. During their stay in Roux-Miroir, they valued the calm of the countryside, meeting locals and discovering the history of the atelier, including Pierre Culot’s collaboration with Citroën in 1970, which inspired part of their work. Formed in 2008, Mon Colonel & Spit (Éric Bassleer and Thomas Stiernon) create collaboratively across painting, sculpture, installation, and ceramics, drawing from graffiti, Brutalist architecture, and everyday life.
